Herding cats? — Bayesian and frequentist methods and compromises

Abstract

I review Bayesian and frequentist methods, including their philosophies and subjective and objective aspects, and provide examples of their uses in cosmology and particle physics. I discuss possible compromises between them, including a recent example in cosmology. Lastly, I describe recent developments in nested sampling for tackling computational challenges in any approach.
